ASTM D2834 Nonvolatile Matter (Total Solids) in Water-Emulsion Floor Polishes, Solvent-Based Floor Polishes and Polymer-Emulsion Floor Polishes
Although this is not a lubricant test per se, lubricating emulsions such as metal working fluids, drilling fluids and spray multi-purpose lubricants are applied to surfaces in a similar manner so that volatile components evaporate away leaving non-volatile components to coat the intended surfaces. The amount of residue in the lubricating fluid may determine the effectiveness of the product in use. This test determines the quantity of non-volatile material in emulsions.
The sample is weighed, placed in a heated oven for the test time, cooled in a desiccator and reweighed. The percentage of non-volatile matter is reported.
